Climate change continues to pose an increasingly greater threat to rangelands and livestock. It
is necessary to determine the perceptions of farmers who engage in pasture-based animal
husbandry regarding climate change and pasture. The aim of this study is to compare and
determine the climate change perception levels and climate change adaptation capacities of
farmers in two regions of Ankara province with different pasture characteristics. For this
purpose, face-to-face surveys were conducted with farmers engaged in pasture animal
husbandry in Çubuk and Polatlı districts of Ankara Province and who are under the influence
of climate change. In the research area, a face-to-face survey was conducted with 107 farmers
selected by random sampling technique. Survey questions were prepared regarding the
socioeconomic structure of farmers, farmers' perception of climate change and the effects of
their perception of climate change on the livestock system. Chi-square test was used in data
analysis. According to the research results, it was determined that there was a significant
relationship between the regions in terms of education, farm characteristics, land assets, number
of cattle, number of sheep and type of livestock (P<0.050). It has been determined that farmers
do not have sufficient perception about climate change and its effects. Therefore, it was
concluded that they could not adapt sufficiently to the effects of climate change. It has been
found that adaptation measures depend on the socioeconomic factors of farmers. In this context,
education, seminars, printed and visual studies and publication activities should be carried out
for farmers on climate change and adaptation strategies.
