© 2023, The Indian Institute of Metals - IIM.Hot-dip galvanizing performances of various filler metals were investigated in this study. S355JR grade structural steel plates were joined with four different filler wires in solid, flux-cored, and metal-cored forms in different chemical compositions, then cooled at ambient temperature. Later, specimens were subjected to a hot-dip galvanizing process. Coating metallography, soundness analysis, and microstructural characterizations were conducted by optical and scanning electron microscopes (SEM). The coating thicknesses of the specimens were also measured. The chemical composition of weld metal after galvanizing was analyzed by Energy-dispersive X-ray spectroscopy (EDS). The mechanical properties of the coatings were also interpreted by hardness tests. As a result of these examinations, it was determined that the galvanized coating properties of the samples joined with E70C-6M and ER70S-2 filler wires were comparably better.
