Özet

This study aimed to retrospectively evaluate the annual distribution, clinical characteristics, and antimicrobial resistance patterns of Klebsiella oxytoca bacteremia among hospitalized children over an eight-year period. Children aged 1 month to 18 years with monomicrobial K. oxytoca bacteremia between January 2018 and December 2025 were included. Demographic and clinical data, infection onset, outcomes, and antimicrobial susceptibility results were analyzed. A total of 45 patients were identified (median age 92 months; 55% male). Gastrointestinal diseases were the most common comorbidity. Most episodes were community-onset (64.4%). Pediatric intensive care unit admission and mechanical ventilation were required in 24.4% and 15.5% of patients, respectively, and mortality was 4.4%. In conclusion, K. oxytoca is a clinically relevant cause of pediatric bacteremia, with an increasing number of cases observed in recent years. Its predominantly community-onset presentation and high antimicrobial susceptibility support targeted therapy and improved antimicrobial stewardship strategies in children.
