The Reliability-based design and risk assessment (REBAD) model [1] where the Second Order Reliability Method (SORM) is utilized, was implemented to Wiseman's Bridge revetment, UK. The failure mode probability is predicted by approximating the failure surface by a quadratic one having the identical curvature at design point. REBAD was succesfully implemented to the revetment as a risk assessment study by utilizing the Van der Meer failure functions. A methodology is suggested to determine the damage probability of coastal structures which are subject to large tidal ranges and storm surges. The study points out the necessity for development of the deformation?based design (DP) methodology instead of the partial safety system used in EU countries.
