Özet

Architectural design education is a process which involves providing the students with the understanding and perceiving their surrounding environment and the skills of reproducing and organizing it with their own elements. Students have to observe sustainability of design language in architecture of near surrounding as much as physical data. Shape grammar, which is a rule-based design method, is methods used to understand analyze or represent various past and contemporary design languages. Based on the design languages of Ankara Yenimahalle residences, which are indications of Republican ideology and which functioned as an information bridge between the past and present, this study aimed to test the sustainability in the process of producing new architectural designs. In this respect, a case study was carried out with master's students in Department of Architecture. The students were asked analyze authentic residences by analyzing them using shape grammar method; to recognize design language of spatial composition and to produce new multiple-storey residence designs within the context of the rules they discover. In conclusion, the use of this method enabled continuity of design language of the location; furthermore it was observed that information usage fields of students towards location and society have increased in number.
