The radiation dose to the eye lens of patients who underwent diagnostic imaging and treatment of lacrimal drainage system (LDS) obstruction under fluoroscopic guidance have been measured with Thermoluminescence Dosimeters (TLD) and found to be below the deterministic levels. A technique was also suggested for the retrospective estimation of the lens doses, and when applied to each individual patient study good correlation was obtained. Knowledge of patient study data such as image acquisition frame numbers and fluoro on time, mean exposure values for these parameters, and the ratio of lens-to air dose derived for a standard adult head is required for this method. Experimental measurements on a Rando Phantom and simulations with Monte Carlo technique were carried out for the determination of this factor.
