The kinetics of iron oxide leaching from low grade boehmitic bauxite of Dogankuzu ore of Konya-Turkey has been studied with hydrochloric acid. Although temperature and concentration strongly effect the iron dissolution amounts, particle size has less effect on the dissolution. Jander's unreacted shrinking core model was found to fit the experimental results satisfactorily. The activation energies were between 48-5 1 KJ mol(-1) for different particle size fractions. Although the percentage aluminium dissolution was below 3% at 6M acid concentration at temperatures below 70degreesC , higher values of between 38.5% were obtained at 90'C.
