Özet

The aim of this study is to show how to determine the basic vocabulary of a vocational language and its features. For this aim, literature review is utilized. This study is planned to be a qualitative research. Data is gathered through document review, and analyzed descriptively. It is of great necessity for vocabulary in vocational language education materials to appear according to the hierarchy of frequency as in the case of teaching native language or teaching Turkish as a foreign language. Terms are what makes the difference between daily language and vocational language. For this reason, terms are the core elements of a frequency dictionary to be carried out on vocational language. That the terms are common notions of an occupation is the common declaration of all descriptions. However, there are situations where the descriptions of terms do not correspond. Researchers face three basic problems because of the literature on what to be seen as a term or not: 1.Can the words used in daily languages be terms , and in which situations do terms stop being terms? 2. Is having only one meaning obligatory for terms? 3. Can a term belong to more than one occupation? Beside these questions, the qualities of the texts from which the terms will be drawn out is another problem. Considering these three points on determining vocabulary of a vocational language might contribute to future research.
