Today, in order to prepare players’ to the games and attain the best performance different training models are used. However, these training models alone are not effective enough to the players’ performance increase. The studies that focus on the performance of football players’ show that the psyhcological factors are as important as the physical factors on increasing the football players’ performance. Accordingly the primary psyhcological factor is motivation. At this point, the motivation factors which affect the team’s performance are intended to be determined in this study. With the model of descriptive research, a survey has been carried out with the licenced players in all football teams who are in Gençlerbirligi Sports Club and the motivation level of the players’ has been investigated. Furthermore, the motivational factors which affect the team performance have been attemped to be determined. 130 football players participated in the study. In order to determine the players’ demographic specilities, a personal form was given to the participants. For the purpose of determining their motivational levels. The achievement motivation scale peculiar to the sports developed by Wills (1982) was used. The differences with respect to the demographical specialities of points which the players obtained from the motivation scale were tested by the Z test in variable with two categories and by the one way-ANOVA analysis in variable with more than two categories. In the conclusion of the ANOVA analysis, the results of Tukey HSD test from the posthac tests was referred when there were situations that have significant differences, and these differences were commented on. Concerning the results of the studies, it has been concluded that the players’ motivation of getting close to the achievement and power display is high, whereas the motivation of avoiding the failure is relatively low. When the motivation of players are analyzed with respect to their demographic characteristics, it is showed up that the motivation of displaying power of players taking part in team A is lower than the others; furthermore, the motivation level of the players who play sports less than 5 years and the players who play sports more than 10 years are lower. This situation shows that the motivation of displaying power do not affect the players who started their professional sports career recently and the players who had been continuing their sports career for a long time and who had reached satisfying positions in their careers. On the other hand, the fact that the motivations of displaying power of the players who are on their ways of going ahead in their sports career are strong, gives rise to think that this type of motivation has a vital role in the contribution of players in team performance. Besides, in this research, it’s seen that the players of team A have similar motivation of displaying power with the young players. Moreover, when the motivation of getting close to the achievement is analyzed with respect to varied features of differences; it is revealed that the players in team A in comparison with the players in other teams, the players taking part in 20 year old and older age group in comparison with the younger players, the players who have been playing sports more than 10 years in comparison with the ones who have been playing sports less, again, have a lower motivation of getting close to achievement. The results of the research manifested that the motivation of the escape from failure of the players within the research is low and this situation is valid for all players independently from the demographic characteristics.
