Abstract:On the general perspective, this practice-consisting of introduction, 3 parts, conclusion and appendix-clarifies the role of textbooks, which are important resources for foreign language teaching process, and the role of supportive and supplementary materials on language development. Spesifically, on the other hand, it aims to determine the contributions of silsiletu'l-lisân textbook series on Arabic learning in Turkey, and to make suggestions when regarded necessary after examining the structure and characteristics of supportive and supplementary materials of the aforementioned textbook. At the introduction part the importance, scope and objective of the practice are emphasized. At the first part the evaluations of foreign language teaching methods are discoursed, mentioning some of the elements regarded important during the language learning/teaching processes. At the second part, the evaluation of textbook for foreign language teaching is dwelled on. The roles of teacher, textbook and student during the language learning process are addressed. In addition to that, the essential characteristics of supportive and supplementary materials are studied. At the third part, silsiletu'l-lisân textbook series are analyzed and a general evaluation is made. Organizing a student poll, the expectations of the students from Arabic textbooks are determined and then compared to the aforementioned textbook. And at the final part, information is given regarding the result of the study. At the appendix, the student polls mentioned above are included.
