Abstract:

Road traffic accidents occur in every country in the world. These accidents lead to the death of more than one million people and result in much more people to be injured every year. In Turkey, traffic accidents lead to the death ofmore than ten thousands people and result in approximately two hudred thousands people to be injured every year. According to the Turkey?s traffic statistics for the year 2010, in all traffic accidents, driver faults have a share of %90, and pedestrian faults have a share of %10. It can be accepted that, the share of driver faults reflects in statistics too high because it?s not possible to determine flaws in road infrastructure and vehicle in the report of traffic accident. However, in our country, it?s obvious that drivers are defective significantly in fatal accidents. In current conditions and today's level of consciousness of society about traffic, approximately 10 000 people lose their life in traffic jams, in future; with increasing population, vehicle ownership and vehicle utilization rate, unfortunately it will be inevitable casualties will increase unless the level of public awareness develops. Therefore, studies should be planned to decrease casualties and injuries result from traffic accidents and develop level of public awareness with institutional, administrative and technical measures. In this study, social responsibility projects and campaigns in Turkey which are conducted in a spesific sample group are reviewed and analysed by survey method in order to learn projects? impact on traffic safety. In the study, findings and recommendations are submitted in order to help social responsibility projects and campaigns which will be carried out in the future.
