Abstract:

THE WELD ABILITY OF ALUMINIUM ALLOYS AND THE EFFECT OF VARITION PARAMETERS ON MECHANICAL PROPERTIES AND MICROSTRUCTURE (M.Sc.Thesis) Osman KURTULUŞ GAZI UNIVERSITY INSTUTUE OF SCIENCE & TECHNOLOGY December 2001 ABSTRACT In this study mechanical properties and microstructural variations of three different aluminium alloys called 1030 series E3, 1050 series E5 and 3003 series E30 in commericial purity were investigated by TIG and MIG welding methods under Ar and Ar+%25 He gas mixtures and using Sg-AlMgs and Sg-AlSis welding wires. The highest values in terms of tensile and yield strengths were obtanied in Al alloy coded E30 which is welded by TIG welding method was using Ar gas and AlMgs welding wire. The highest impact resistance was obtanied in Aluminium welding sample coded E5 which is welded by TIG under the gas mixture of, Ar+%25 He with AlMgs welding wire. It was seen that particle structure of the welded area of three Al alloys was thinner and smaller and besides the hardness values reached the highest values in weld metals.
