Abstract:Communication has a vital importance in the organizational mechanism, which is formed by individuals and communities that have come together to realize a common goal. Because the correct transmission of messages within the organization; It is an indispensable element in terms of ensuring the efficiency, effectiveness and continuity of the organization. The congestion of communication channels within the organization pushes employees to form informal groups and informal communication. Informal communication channels are a natural communication channel that is ignored, ignored or even tried to be prevented in organizations. The history of studies on the concept of gossip and communication resources, which psychologically nourish the individual and have a great importance for organizations, does not date back to ancient times. In particular, it can be stated that gossip has an important role in the adoption, internalization and continuity of organizational culture by employees. Therefore, the necessity of managing gossip in organizations and handling it in a way that will produce beneficial results for the organization emerges. The aim of this research is to systematically examine the studies conducted in Turkey and abroad on organizational gossip. In this research, the concepts of gossip, organizational gossip, organizational gossip were scanned through Google Scholar, TR Directory, Higher Education Council Thesis Center, EBSCO Host and ERIC Database. As a result of the screening, about 300 domestic and international studies on organizational gossip, which is thought to contribute to this research, were examined in depth. As a result of this examination, it was decided to make a descriptive analysis of the content in the findings section of a total of 151 studies, 90 of which were thought to serve the purpose better, 90 studies conducted in the country and 61 studies conducted abroad. According to the findings of this research, the studies consist of articles and theses. Quantitative type of research on organizational gossip is dominant and it has been determined that there is a concentration in the years 2021-2022 in the researches. The concepts of organizational communication, organizational commitment, leadership and organizational trust related to the field of educational administration were studied. The reasons for the gossip are the desire/need to know, jealousy/drawback, social acceptance, and inadequate formal communication channels. It has been concluded that the lack of a fair and equal management style is the most important factor in the emergence of gossip and that gossip can be dealt with by strengthening internal communication. Gossip has both positive (a way of obtaining information, a means of socialization) and negative (loss of morale and motivation) effects for the organization. As a result, it has been reached to the findings of eliminating gossip, managing it instead of ignoring it, and developing strategies for this. In the light of the findings, the related study is a roadmap for practitioners and researchers on the effective and efficient use of organizational gossip in the organizational communication process.
