Özet:

This study is in the field of developing material technology and covers the development of lightweight, high-strength materials that the aviation industry needs. To meet this need, composite materials are developed as an alternative to conventional aluminum. Fiber Metal Laminates (FML) are composite materials that have been used in the aerospace industry due to their high fatigue resistance and low density. The researches in this field are the studies on Fiber Metal Composite materials that were first started at Delft University. Conventional 2000 and 7000 series aluminums, which are used in aircraft structures in the aviation industry, have also been used with different mechanical properties developed as new alloys over time. In these studies, aluminum lithium alloys draw attention with their high mechanical properties and low densities of around 10%. The content of the study includes the development of Fiber Metal Laminates (FML) using new generation aluminum lithium alloy metal layers and chemical etching techniques. Within the scope of development studies, T-GLARE (Turkish-Fiber Metal Laminate GLARE) and N-GLARE (New-GLARE) materials were revealed and the mechanical properties of these materials showed approximately 70% higher compressive and shear strengths than the previous series of fiber metal laminates. They were also found to be about 10% lighter materials by weight. In the newly developed T-GLARE, a high-strength and light metal layer made of aluminum lithium alloy is used, and chemical etching technique is used on metal surfaces to provide a good integration between the fiber and metal layer. With the new material developed, it is thought that fiber metal laminates will start to take a larger share than conventional aluminum in the aviation sector.
