Özet:
The study aimed to evaluate the level of accessibility to primary healthcare in Migori County, Kenya, and propose interventions to enhance spatial access to healthcare services. The study used the Maximum Covering Location Problem (MCLP) to analyse the availability of healthcare services, taking into account the operating hours of primary healthcare providers. The study found that the overall spatial accessibility of basic healthcare facilities was 84%, with some facilities being non-operational on weekends and 24 hours. The study also found that accessibility declined to 60% on weekends and 49% for 24-hour accessibility. Additionally, the study recommended upgrading strategically situated healthcare facilities to improve access for the local population to primary healthcare services. This upgrading strategy aimed to establish a practical spatial framework that complements the implementation of the Kenya Primary Health Care Strategic Framework (2019-2024) by addressing spatial disparities in Migori County. The study emphasizes the need for sustainable spatial frameworks that promote equitable access to primary healthcare and highlights the importance of policymakers and healthcare providers working together to address geographical disparities in healthcare access.
