Abstract:The study was conducted to determine needs of primary school children with chronic disease according to their parents and teachers. The study was carried out in 10 schools selected among the primary schools at Yenimahalle District of Ankara between 02.05.2018 and 06.06.2018. The sample of the study consisted of sixty-nine parents and 69 teachers. ''Parent and Child Descriptive Characteristic Information Form'', ''Teacher Descriptive Characteristic Information Form'', ''Determining the Needs of the Primary School Children with Chronic Disease Form'' and ''School Descriptive Characteristic Information Form'' were used to data collection. Data obtained in this study was stated as number and percentage. First three common diseases determined from the study were asthma, ADHD and epilepsy with the percentage of 30,4, 18,8 and 15,9, respectively. The mean age of the children was 8.71 ± 1.17 and the diagnosis age of disease was 3.36 ± 2.75. Parents rate waiting to meet the children's needs at school was 13,0% in this study. Also, 94,2% of the teachers had more than ten years experience. All schools had neither emergency protocol nor infirmary. Some of the parents (50,7%) and teachers (75,4%) stated that they did not feel competent to manage the chronic disease of children in school environment. Parents indicated more physical need for their children than teachers. In addition, 58,0% of teachers were not aware of whether the children used any medication or not, and 52,2% were also whether they needed any help or not for medication. Teachers reported more psychosocial problems than parents. In our study, 11,6% of the parents were not aware of whether their children had any problem or not with their classmates. The ratio of the parents who expressed their children school's success as very good was higher than teachers. Parents statements about the impact of the disease on the school achievement of the children were higher than teachers. In conclusion, it was seen that there were differences between parents and teachers to determine the needs of children with chronic disease in school environment. It is thought that the cooperation between parents and teachers could provide to meet the needs of children in school health services.
