Abstract:

Heterotopia is an extremely loaded concept in meaning that is simple defined as the (locality) of otherness. The concept has matured as a medical term. Michel Foucault has moved this concept to a spatial database over forms of social and political otherness by separating from the roots. Heterotopia that having a spatial practice has had a dual effect between power and individual. (That means) heterotopias are the (locality) of both power that is aimed to providing social discipline over individual and individuals who are resisted to power (at the same time). Foucault who has sought possible clues of resist on multi-layered new tissue of space has reached heterotopia with this trace and has been reduced to concrete examples for test this interesting space of resistance. At this point, while putting the relationship with art, firstly the answer to question that "what is heterotopia?" had been sought for the concept of the right to interpret. In this study, this question that has occupied the first part has been evaluated through the relationship with concept of disciplines by various thinkers. Also, some examples that showing the dynamics and experimental aspects of the concept has been given in this part. In the second part of this study, a reading is made out of a variety of works of art has been made an analysis over several artworks in terms of relationship with the concept. As a result, it was observed that the concept changed and taken new forms according to viewers' meeting with artwork in an approach from exhibition to location. In the third part, the visual analysis according to content were made and were referred to the intellectual dimensions of this image.
