The purpose of this study is to determine the self-evaluations of school administrators regarding educational leadership professional standards. For this purpose, in this research, how the school administrators explain the concept of education leadership professional standards and which concepts they relate with them, the competencies of school administrators about the educational leadership professional standards, the methods of increasing the competencies related to educational leadership professional standards and their suggestions for professional and personal development in the context of educational leadership professional standards were examined with qualitative research method. Criterion sampling, maximum diversity sampling and chain sampling techniques were preferred among the purposeful sampling methods in determining the participants. The data of the study were collected by using the semi structured interview form developed by the researcher by using the interview technique and the data obtained were analyzed with descriptive analysis technique. According to the findings of the study, the school administrators think that they are successful and they are more powerful in terms of communication and human values. They explained that required qualifications for the assignment of managers in educational institutions in Turkey are insufficient and some other qualifications such as having a master degree, having the necessary trainings in order ix to be a manager with in-service trainings, courses and seminars and having the experience in the field should be added. In the study, it was revealed that school administrators generally were not able to relate education leadership occupational standards with the right concepts, they did not know what these standards consisted of and they could not express which behavior, dimension or skill areas the standards should cover. In order to increase their competence towards vocational leadership professional standards, it was found that they mostly benefited from the methods of counseling to colleagues, participating in inservice trainings and using internet. Additionally, the majority of school administrators agreed that educational leadership professional standards will positively affect educational management. In this context, according to school administrators, the gains and skills that should be considered primarily in professional standards for school managers to be an effective educational leader should be more likely as following: Being brave and selfconfident, reinforcing the sense of justice and communicating positively. In the context of educational leadership professional standards, school administrators' application proposals for professional and personal development focused on paving the way for academic promotion and encouraging graduate education. At the end of the study in the light of these findings, there have been various proposals to fill the gaps in the theory and practice of educational leadership professional standards. In this context, it was emphasized that vocational leadership standards in education should be established by establishing a platform with the cooperation of the Ministry of National Education and universities and the active participation of teachers and administrators and these standards should be taken into consideration in the criteria of raising, selecting, appointing and upgrading school managers.
