Abstract:Urban transformation projects are implemented in the underdevoloped areas of the cities because of unplanned construction, loss of function and lack of social development. The aims of these projects are to adapt the pysical & cultural change, resolve the emerging urban problems and meet the new requirements in these regions. After the proclamation of the Republic in Ankara, housing shortage emerged due to the rapid population growth and it is still a major problem nowadays in the depressed areas of Ankara. Aktaş neighborhood was chosen as an example. In the scope of this study, it is aimed to determine the size of the spatial transformation by examining Aktaş in the context of urban transformation. In this purpose, it is tried to determine spatial differences between before and after the urban transformation was applied. Accordingly, the first part includes the purpose, the scope and the methods of this thesis, the second part includes the concept of urban transformation, the third part includes the examples of urban transformation in the world and in Turkey, the fourth part includes squatting process and the fifth part includes the example of Aktaş urban transformation project. Finally, the field work carried out in Ankara Aktas neighborhood is given in the sixth part of the study.
