Abstract:
The general purpose of this research is to present the effectiveness of teaching higher order nouns according to the Direct Instruction Model considering students with visual impairment and of permanence and generalizability on seventh, fourteenth and twenty-first days after the end of the instruction. The subjects of the study consist of four subjects aged between seven and eight who are affected by visual impairment. As the research model, multiple probe model between subjects with probe trial was used from the single-subject research models. Concept teaching in the research was carried out according to the Direct Instruction Model with respect to the higher-order noun teaching process. Three types of data were collected in the data collection process, namely effectiveness, reliability and social validity. Effectiveness data consisted of baseline, probe, generalization and monitoring sessions. The obtained data were recorded on the data collection registration forms throughout the entire data collection process. The data obtained in the research were presented through graphical analysis (visual analysis). In the monitoring data, it was examined whether the subjects continued their skills on the seventh, fourteenth and twenty-first days after the end of the instruction, and the generalizability of the instruction to different materials in the generalization data. In the research, social validity data were used to determine the opinions of the subjects and parents about the teaching process. In line with the results obtained from the research, it was concluded that the higher-order noun teaching according to the Direct Instruction Model is effective in teaching fruits. After the instruction, it was observed that the subjects were able to generalize what they learned to different materials. At the same time, the permanence of teaching continued on the seventh, fourteenth and twenty-first days.
In the social validity data obtained, it was concluded that the subjects and the parents were also satisfied with the teaching.
