Abstract:This study aimed to examine the effects of homework on attitudes towards physical education classes in secondary school students according to some variables. In this study, a pretest-posttest experimental design with a control group was used. The sample of the study consists of 7th-grade students studying at Cumhuriyet Secondary School affiliated to the Ministry of National Education in the Sincan district of Ankara province in the academic year of 2019-2020. Selected by a random sampling method, 84 students (42 females and 42 males) made up the study sample. A Personal Information Form prepared by the researcher to determine the demographic information of the participants, and the "Physical Education and Sports Attitude Scale," which was adapted to the Turkish population by Demirhan and Altay (2001), were used as data collection tools in the study. The Kolmogorov-Smirnov Z test was used to test the normality assumptions regarding the distribution of the data collected from the students in the experimental and control groups. In this context, since the normality assumption was not satisfied, nonparametric statistical tests were used in order to make comparisons. To examine the differences between the attitude scale's pretest and posttest scores regarding the ix demographic characteristics of the students, for those variables with two groups, the Mann-Whitney U test was used. Kruskal-Wallis H test was used to examine the difference between the demographic characteristics and the difference between the scores obtained from the general attitude scale and its sub-factors regarding the variables with more than two groups. Among the demographic characteristics of the students, the difference between the pre and posttest scores of the attitude scale according to the variables within the group was examined with the Wilcoxon Signed Ranks test. The study results revealed that there was not any statistically significant difference between the experiment and control group on the attitude pretest scores; however, the groups had significantly different posttest scores so that the experimental group gained higher scores. Therefore, it can be said that the homework applied to the students in the experimental group can increase their attitudes towards physical education classes
