Abstract:The purpose of this study is to investigate the effectiveness of social adaptation skills program to improve six-years-old kindergarten children's social adaptation skills. For the study, pre-test, post-test control group design was utilized. The study was carried out 2009-2010 academic year with 36 six-years-old preschool children attending kindergarten. In the experimental group (n = 18), to improve children's social adaptation skills, social adaptation skills education program was implemented for 12 weeks. Besides, in the control group (n = 18), children received traditional school education. Data of the study were collected through 'Social Adaptation and Skills Instrument' and analyzed with Mann-Whitney U test, Wilcoxon Sign Test and Kruskal- Wallis H test. The results of the study revealed that in experimental group, there is an increase in students' social adaptation skill and there is a decrease in students' social maladaptation skills. The results of the retention test showed that the increase in social adaptation skills is permanent although some time passes after the treatment.
