Orhan Okay was an intellectual who lived between 1931 and 2017. Okay started his academic life in Modern Turkish Literature at Atatürk University. His greatest supporter was his teacher Mehmet Kaplan. Saying that he took his academic discipline from Mehmet Kaplan and spiritual discipline from Nurettin Topçu, Okay is himself an author who is enlightining on the contemporary problems by writing many books besides teaching to his students. Okay is positioning the artist as a guide by saying art is leading the society. Even though art is a lapse or a dream, the artist should perform this without forcing on reality. The artist reality should be evaluated, and we should benefit from the local source. A national art should be written in a national language. The language determines the limits of the national art. Literary Histography also holds an important space in the history of nations. A serious literatural study is necessary for Turkish literature too. For doing this we need biographies, autobiographies and criticism texts. There is education in the basis of the whole problems of society and by fixing the education we will achieve the correction of the society stage by stage. From this perspective by thinking educating teachers and university education as a key point, Okay lines up with change and development is substantially up to these fields. The dissemination of reading books is an important stage for increasing the cultural standards of the society. But Okay emphasizes that the vii secondary school and high school students shouldn’t read too many books but read books efficiently. Saving the language from degeneration, following the right language policies is important for protecting the language. Okay who had mentioned on these subjects in his books and articles, made the increasing his contemporary cultural standards as his main goal. In this research Okay’s perspective of his contemporary problems is presented based on his works.
