Prof. GÜLÇİN AKCA

After graduating from Atatürk University Faculty of Medicine in 1994, he worked as a general physician in the Emergency Department and Intensive Care Unit of Muhittin Ülker Emergency and Traumatology Hospital between 1994-1999. Later, he worked as a research assistant at Gazi University, Department of Medical Microbiology between 2000-2006 and received a doctorate degree. In the same year, he started to work as a specialist doctor at Ufuk University Faculty of Medicine and established the Microbiology laboratory. In 2006, he joined Gazi University Faculty of Dentistry, Department of Basic Medical Sciences as a lecturer. In 2011, he was appointed as an assistant professor, founded the Department of Medical Microbiology at the Faculty of Dentistry and became the head of the Microbiology department. He was appointed as an associate professor in 2014 and as a professor in 2022. He has worked as a manager/coordinator or researcher in a total of 25 national (TÜBİTAK, BAP, etc.) and international projects and independent scientific research, one of which is the EU-H2020-ERASMUS+, K2-Capacity Building European Union project. He has published a total of 90 international and national scientific articles, 76 of which are in SCI, and these articles have been cited more than 1000 times in web of science (WOS). Prof. Dr. Gülçin Akca is also the author of a total of 14 national and international book chapters. In addition, he has participated in many national and international congresses and has a total of 82 papers, 56 of which were presented at international congresses. His main research areas are oral microbiota and microbiome, bacteria-host interactions, antimicrobial, anti-adhesive and anti-inflammatory agents, anaerobic bacteria, periodontopathogens, cariogenic microorganisms, pre-probiotic use in oral diseases, oral mucosa release drugs. He still teaches undergraduate courses at the same faculty and continues to work as a consultant in the research of graduate, specialization and doctoral students.
