Dr. Kübranur Ünal graduated from Atatürk University Faculty of Medicine. She completed her specialization in Medical Biochemistry at Ankara Numune Training and Research Hospital and received the title of specialist physician. She worked as a Medical Biochemistry Specialist in various hospitals in Ankara. Since 2020, she has been working as a faculty member in the Department of Medical Biochemistry at Gazi University Faculty of Medicine.
Dr. Ünal is a scientist who has focused her academic studies on clinical and experimental biochemistry, particularly on the molecular etiology of neuropsychiatric disorders. Her research focuses on the biochemical basis of complex conditions such as schizophrenia, obsessive-compulsive disorder (OCD), generalized anxiety disorder, and bipolar disorder, as well as neurodevelopmental disorders such as autism and ADHD.
Dr. Ünal analyzes the delicate relationship between the nervous system, immunity, and metabolism through neuroinflammation, blood-brain barrier integrity, and oxidative balance mechanisms. Dr. Kübranur Ünal is pioneering the discovery of next-generation, non-invasive neurobiomarkers for the diagnosis and monitoring of psychiatric illnesses, particularly through her innovative projects focusing on miRNA profiles that regulate the gut-brain axis and neurobiological processes. Aiming to integrate her findings at the molecular level into clinical neuroscience practice, Dr. Ünal resolutely pursues her academic vision.
Dr. Ünal, who is particularly interested in hirudotherapy and cupping therapy in the field of traditional and complementary medicine, is building an interdisciplinary bridge between GETAT (Traditional and Complementary Medicine) and clinical biochemistry.
