Biyografi
After graduated from Atatürk University Faculty of Medicine in 1994, she worked as a general practitioner in the Emergency Service and Intensive Care Unit of Muhittin Ülker Emergency and Traumatology Hospital between 1994-1999. Then, she worked as a research assistant at Gazi
University, Department of Medical Microbiology between 2000-2006 and earned the degree of PhD. In the same year, she started working as a specialist doctor at Ufuk University, Faculty of Medicine and built the Microbiology laboratory. In 2006, she joined Gazi University Faculty of
Dentistry, Department of Basic Medical Sciences as a lecturer. In 2011, she was appointed as an assistant professor and built the department of Medical Microbiology in faculty of Dentistry and became the head of the Microbiology department. She was promoted to associate professor in
2014, and professor in 2022. She has worked as an
executive/coordinator or researcher in many national (TÜBİTAK, BAP, etc.) and international (EU-H2020-ERASMUS+, K2-Capacity Building,
etc.) projects and independent scientific research. She published more than 190 international and national scientific papers in SCI, and peer-reviewed journals and received over 1300 citations
to these publications. Moreover, she participated in many national and international congresses and contributed with her scientific papers. Prof. Dr. Gülçin Akca is also the author of national and international book chapters. Her main research areas are oral microbiota and microbiome,
bacteria-host interactions, antimicrobial, antiadhesive and anti inflammatory agents, anaerobic bacteria, periodontopathogens, cariogenic microorganisms, use of pre-probiotics in oral diseases, oral mucosal release drugs. He still teaches undergraduate courses at the same faculty and continues to work as a consultant in the research of graduate, specialty, and doctoral students.
