Biography

He graduated from Gazi University, Gazi Faculty of Education, Department of Physics Education (1988). Between 1988-1992, he worked as a physics teacher and assistant principal at Şanlıurfa Suruç High School, Şanlıurfa Gazi High School and Şanlıurfa Anatolian High School, respectively. He completed his master's (1993) and doctorate (1996) education at Gazi University, Institute of Science and Technology, Physics Education Program.

He worked as a research assistant (1992-1996), assistant professor (1996-2000) and associate professor (2001-2006) in Gazi University, Gazi Faculty of Education, Department of Physics Education and continues his duty as a professor (2006-...) in the same department. He is currently serving as the Dean of Gazi University, Gazi Faculty of Education (2024-...). In addition to his deanship, he is the Founding Representative of Gazi University Foundation Schools.

Under the affiliation of Gazi University; he has held many administrative positions such as Head of Department, Head of IT Department, Member of Faculty and Institute Board of Directors, Head of BAP Projects, EUA Coordinator, etc.

While working part-time at Ahmet Yesevi University (2009-2015), he served as the Vice President of TÜRTEP, as well as a member of the Board of Directors and head of various departments.

In addition to national projects, he has participated in many internationally supported projects such as EU, UNESCO, World Bank, etc.: Development of science and technology curriculum, writing of science and technology textbook sets (textbook + student workbook + teacher's guide) according to the curriculum on behalf of Ministry of National Education (MoNE), development of physics curriculum, development of special field competencies for physics teachers.

He was a visiting professor (assistant professor) at Leeds University (1997) and a visiting research professor at Middle Tennessee State University (2019-2020), Tennessee STEM Education Center in a large-scale teacher training project.

He has a special interest in nature and low light photography and is a member of Ankara Photographic Artists Association (AFSAD) and has been and is participating in workshops and seminars in different environments, especially under the roof of this association and his photographs have been exhibited in many national and international photography exhibitions. As a result of the need to organize the visual information he acquired under the roof of AFSAD and other non-governmental organizations with an academic approach, he completed his education at Anadolu University, Department of Photography and Camera Operation in 2015 in order to systematize his knowledge about the culture, aesthetics, methods, techniques and materials specific to visual culture, fine arts and visual communication.

Initially he worked in the field of condensed matter physics, crystallography. For the last 30 years he has focused on physics education. His research interests include condensed matter physics, crystal structure analysis, computer- and technology-assisted learning, learning approaches, curriculum development, measurement tool development, teacher competencies, teacher education, misconceptions, conceptual change approach, and multi-tiered testing.

He has served as an evaluator and team leader in the Institutional External Evaluation, Institutional Follow-up and Institutional Accreditation Evaluations of many universities within the Higher Education Quality Council (YÖKAK) and continues his duty as a team leader within YÖKAK.
